EdChoice Expansion calculator for Columbus families

Household size and income in, an estimated 2026-27 award out, using the formula in DEW's own award workbook.

Last verified: October 2026

Income as a share of poverty—
Per K-8 student—
Per 9-12 student—
Estimated family total—
Tuition left after the award—

Estimate only. Uses the 2026 poverty guideline ($15,960 for one person plus $5,680 per additional person) and the reduction formula in DEW's "2026-2027 Expansion Award Amounts by Poverty Level" workbook. A household at or below 200% of poverty with verified income cannot be charged tuition above the award.

How much EdChoice Expansion will our Columbus family get in 2026-27?

Enter household size and adjusted gross income from line 11 of your most recent Form 1040. At or below 450% of the 2026 poverty guideline the award is the full $6,166 for K-8 or $8,408 for grades 9-12. Above that, the calculator applies the reduction curve in DEW's 2026-2027 award workbook, which halves the award for every 100 percentage points of income above 450% and stops at a floor of 10%.

Is this estimate the same as our official award?

No. DEW verifies income and sets the award, and applications submitted after October 14, 2026 are prorated for the part of the year left. The estimate also assumes tuition is at least the award, since EdChoice pays the lesser of the two.
