Ohio school vouchers in Columbus, in plain numbers

Ohio calls its private school vouchers EdChoice. Here is what a Central Ohio child can receive this year, what the October court ruling means and where the money can be used.

How much is the Ohio EdChoice voucher for a Columbus student in 2026-27?

Up to $6,166 for kindergarten through 8th grade and up to $8,408 for grades 9-12, paid to a participating private school toward tuition. Families at or below 450% of the poverty guideline get the full amount through EdChoice Expansion; above that the award is reduced but never below 10%.

Which Columbus private schools can accept EdChoice?

Only chartered nonpublic schools, and 121 of the 160 schools in our directory appear on Ohio's chartered list. Each school still registers to take scholarship students, so confirm with the school before you enroll.

Does the 2026 court ruling stop EdChoice in Columbus?

No. The Tenth District ruled on October 15, 2026 that EdChoice is unconstitutional, then stayed its decision while the state appeals to the Ohio Supreme Court. Payments continue in the meantime.

What does the Ohio voucher not pay for?

Fees, books, uniforms, transportation and aftercare. It is a tuition-only scholarship, and families above 200% of poverty may owe tuition the award does not cover.
