Last verified: October 2026

Has Ohio opted into the federal scholarship tax credit?

Yes. Governor DeWine opted Ohio in during February 2026, and Ohio appears on the IRS list of participating states released June 8, 2026. The credit applies to gifts made on or after January 1, 2027.

How could the federal credit help a Columbus private school family?

Donors who give to a qualifying SGO can take a federal credit of up to $1,700. SGOs then award scholarships to students in households at or below 300% of area median income. For a family whose school costs more than EdChoice pays, it is a possible second layer, and it can also pay for tutoring for public school students.

Which Ohio SGOs will offer the federal credit?

As of late October 2026 we have not found a published Ohio list of SGOs approved for the federal credit. We will add it here, and to the funding check, once the state submits it.
